DOUBLE PAGE

Here is the construction of my double page spread and how I structured my page to make it look like a professional piece of work. The title across the top of the magazine was the first step to making the double page spread as it immediately grabs the reader’s attention and will be the second thing that the reader sees, behind the main feature article. The second step was adding the second part of the title which was 'The Return Of' which I believe is a dominant and intense sentence / title which will immediately grab the reader’s attention. The third step was adding the cover line and description of the page which in the upper right hand corner which made the magazine look more professional as the reader could understand what they are reading about and be enticed by the story they are about to read. The third step was adding the first column of the main story to the page. I emphasized the first letter of the story to be much bigger than the rest as this is what professional magazines like 'NME' and 'Q' magazine do. The first was placed towards the centre of the page; slightly to the right therefore I could add the rest of the story next to it, and the main feature article of Izzy to the left of it. The fourth step was adding the second column of the story which was written in the same font and colour and was placed to the right of the first column. I left a gap in the middle of two paragraphs which allowed space for a big quote to be placed. The fifth step was adding a big red quote from a reviewer of Izzy's performance and I emphasized this quote because it is quite and important feature of the story, and also this is how professional magazines layout there quotes. The sixth step was adding the third and final column of the story into the magazine. It was placed to the right of the page and again was written in the same font style and in the same colour, which follows the overall house style and colour I was going for throughout he magazine. The seventh step was adding the lower skyline towards the bottom of the page which read 'Download Izzy's New Number 1 Hit 'Castaway' Now On iTunes'. This was placed under the main story on the double page spread as I did not want this overlapping on to the photo as it would not be as visible to the audience. I wrote this lower skyline in black and used the font 'Rockwell' as this suited the overall house-style of my magazine. The eighth step was adding the page number in the lower right corner of each page. I wrote these numbers in red and used the font 'Rockwell' which again suits the overall house style which I was continuing throughout the magazine. The ninth and final step was adding my main feature article image of Izzy onto the page which showed the split between the A3 page into two A4 pages. The photo was placed to the right of the page and covered the majority of my double page spread which is what I aimed for as this is what I want as the first thing that my audience sees as they open the page.
