TARGET AUDIENCE-PRIMARY RESEARCH

Here was the plan for my first internet survey about the audience and music magazines. This survey gave me a basic understanding of what type of audience I am aiming at what type of music magazine is popular. I created this plan on a word document then I copied the questions onto 'surveymonkey' where I could create a questionnaire online for people to answer and give me feedback which helped me towards deciding what type of music magazine genre to use and which type of audience I should aim my magazine at.

This is where I created my survey for my first questionnaire. The survey is multiple choice which allows the audience to have a range of answers for the audience to choose from. On survey monkey all the submitted surveys get send to the database and recorded and collected. I then used these results to plan around what I was going to do for my music magazine and who it was going to be aimed at etc. I sent this survey link to my teacher who has the power to send it to all of the students at my college, however I had to ask permission for this as I was not allowed to send information to all the students in my college at one go.

This was the E-mail I sent to my teacher to ask for permission for my survey to be sent to all the students at my college. There are just under 2000 students in my college and this survey would be sent to all of them, giving me a wide range of people to aim towards with lots of different feedback further helping me by developing my research into my music magazine idea.

I used this question to find out which genre of music magazine is the most popular and I used these results to decide who my main target audience was going to be and who I aim my music magazine towards. The results showed me that indie was the most popular genre of magazine read by the people who completed my survey with a total of 6 people out of 22 who chose indie film, closely followed by pop- magazine as a popular genre with 5 out of the 22 who completed my survey.

I used this question to find out which gender was most popular within the people who completed my survey. The results showed me that more females completed the survey and therefore the majority of people who are interested in music magazines are females which persuaded me to aim my magazine towards the female gender rather than the male genre.

I used this question to find out which age range I wanted to aim my magazine towards. Clearly my results showed that teens were the most popular audience to use as 95% of the people that completed my survey were teenagers. There was an anomaly in my results which showed somebody who was over 50 years of age, however the majority showed teenagers, therefore I have chosen to aim my magazine towards the younger generation of teenagers, rather than the older generation.

I used this question to find out of the people who said that they do read music magazines, how often do they read them. These results would allow me to input onto my magazine an issue number and date, whether that be the magazine date for this day, this week or this month. The results showed me that out of the 9 people who do read music magazines, 6 of them read it very couple of months which persuaded me to make a magazine which is only issued every month rather than every week.

I used this final question to find out what price was willing to be spend the most on music magazines and I used this to find out what price I should put on my magazine front cover. Clearly the audience preferred to spent less money on music magazines at £2.50 therefore this persuaded me to choose the price of my magazine as a cheaper option of £2.50.

I used this question to find out whether or not the people who completed my survey read magazines or not. It was fairly close but the majority of people who completed my survey said 'No' they didn't read music magazine. However 9 people out of 20 said that they do read music magazine, which meant that there was an audience to aim my magazine towards and I’m sure that if I collected more data from my surveys that there would be many more people who say 'Yes' they do read music magazines.
