LOGO RESEARCH
Due to the colour scheme of this title block - red, black and white - I can assume that this is a magazine about rock music. The title block on the recent magazine issues have a slit through the title which links in with the name Blender. Also the slit through the name suggests to the audience that the main music genre is rock. The colours used are striking to the eye and the title’s boldness can be associated with the boldness of rock fans and rock music. The title block font is quite simplistic than other rock magazine title blocks, therefore giving off the impression that the magazine might not be tied down to one genre of music but a variety and range of music. Also on the title block for Blender magazine, the statement 'The Ultimate Music Magazine' indicates to the audience that this magazine is the best magazine out there and this statement also indicates to the audience that the magazine has a variety of music genres and artists.
The main colours used on this logo are white and red which are easily distinguishable to the genre of rock. The logo has the letter 'Q' on it which is the name of the magazine. I believe this is a very effective symbol and name because it is very catchy and easy to identify. This logo is very simple and effective because it is quite small therefore it can be placed on multiple pages throughout the whole magazine without taking up too much space. I believe this is an effective technique as this symbol will be subconsciously remembered by the audience and whenever they see this symbol, they will immediately think 'Q' magazine. The letter 'Q' is in a bold sophisticated font which indicates to the audience that this music magazine is going to be a professional music magazine.
The colour used on the NME logo are also black, white and red which again are the colours for rock magazines. The font used for the name 'NME' is quite bold and dominant which indicates that the magazine is a strong rock / indie music magazine. The name of the magazine is placed on a background with the colour that is most opposite to the colour used on the name. This allows the name to stand out more and catch the reader’s eye. The name is quite simple and short which is quite beneficial as a long name would not appeal to the audience. The name is also in capital letters which represents power and dominance which is a connotation of rock music. Finally the symbol / name is quite small and could easily be used on every page of the magazine, which would be an effective technique in making the audience remember the music magazine's name for the future.
